Copy of proposal document attached. Closing date 25 November; application to Council for grant needs to be in by Monday 2 November.

If anyone is interested in getting involved in preparing this proposal together perhaps you could reply to this email - it would also be helpful if you could mention your particular area of interest/expertise.

We very narrowly missed out with our last proposal, so a lot of the groundwork has been done.

A theme needs to be decided upon - in informal conversations it seems like an "Internet of Things" related theme would be the way to go.

I'd be interested in helping out how do you normally come together to do the proposal? I've experience in making grant applications and I have a dip. in event management.

I'll help out whatever way I can. Maybe helpers/parents/mentors  could meet up without kids, so we can brainstorm & put together something with no interruptions.

Last time we didn't meet up for the Council Grant application, we shared the document and communicated by email.  I'm attaching the document so everyone can get an idea, I imagine this year's application form is pretty similar so most of the preparation would be cutting and pasting.

In terms of the DojoCon proposal, about 10 of us met up in the Royal Marine one Saturday morning, partly because we could have a quick look at the proposed venues.  Then there were various one-to-one meetings in different places.  Again, a lot of the collaboration was done online - we set up a new Google group for communications.

I had hoped to apply for this year's Community Awards competition but apparently there is none!  They are hoping to have it earlier in 2016 in an alternative format, whatever that means.  So, regarding the Council Grants, it may be worth putting in a second application (I've checked, we can do this!) to cover some expenses like buying some hardware, insurance etc.  Our insurance, about €250 is up for renewal in January, and to date I have paid it but been reimbursed by IADT.  With insurance costs going upwards, there is no guarantee IADT will continue to pay this, so it may be worth considering an alternative source of funds.

There are several categories in the community grants so it is possible to enter for more than one award. Any chance I could get a look at previous grant applications to the council and dojocon? Always easier going from a previous application no need to start from scratch

Have attached the Council Grant application from last year (that's the only one to date) in email at 11:18 today, and am attaching the DojoCon 2015 proposal now.

For what it's worth, Eugene McDonagh, the judge who had the task of phoning me with the news that we hadn't been successful, said it was incredibly close and that he had thought we would have won, but were just barely edged out by Derry when the points were added up.

Hi Sandra

I hope all is well - looks like Coderdojo at the IADT is thriving. You are all doing such great work.

As we no longer attend would you mind removing me from the email distribution list please?

Many thanks

Hi Karen,

Yes, we've come a long way - sessions on Wednesday evenings & Sunday mornings now, with about 50 at each - but with a massive waitlist of 300+!

I've removed you from the list now.  Hope all is well with you and please give my best wishes to Keelan.

Best regards,

Sandra

I have fairly much completed the application form for the DLRCoCo Grant.  The deadline is Monday, but I'd feel happier if I could submit it tomorrow as next week is mad busy!

Would appreciate if anyone could have a look through. It's largely the same as last year, just updated to reflect things that have happened during 2015.

File attached is "DLRCoCo 2016 Application Event Grant CoderDojoDL"

If we want to go for another grant we could copy this file and just change the financial section.  Unfortunately I probably won't have any more time today, so if there's someone else who could have a look, that would be fantastic!

We could look for a grant for insurance, approximately €250 - IADT have reimbursed me to date for this, but there's no guarantee that will continue.  Grants are available towards running costs.
We could also put in for some hardware stuff - if we're applying to host DojoCon, and want to include Internet of Things in our theme, it would be enormously helpful to have stuff the kids can build with.  Francis and others have posted details of wishlist items.
Note: Community grants for equipment are 50% of the cost, paid on submission of receipts.

Read through grant application yesterday and it looks great can't see any reason it wouldn't be successful again this year. I work two jobs and was trying to find out which category we got our insurance cover through last year as I'm out of the office until Monday. I'm nearly sure if was the equipment minor grant but won't be 100% until I read the application Monday and I'm assuming that's too late. Did anyone offer to take on the insurance and equipment applications? I didn't put my hand up as I'm moving house this weekend but if no one has I can have a look when I get home this evening

Thanks a million Anthea -  I think I might just send off the Event Grant application this evening anyway.

Francis is kindly putting together a list of items for equipment, and I'm copying and pasting the information into the Community Grant application form.  He's going away on Monday, and I'm hoping I can squeeze a few moments together to send it off!!

Good luck with the house move!
