Hi all,
A summary of our meeting yesterday evening:
*First Session
We missed our window before the school holidays started, so we've not yet had any coders sign up for our first session. We have a week or two after the holidays if we move quickly. Raymond is going to email Tweehek (code camp) to see if they can drum up some interest. Please let's all have a think about how to get more to sign up!
As for what to teach for the first session, we'd like to start with a simple game like Pong. The language of choice would be Python with SDL bindings. The idea is to provide some explanation and example code which cab be adapted to create a complete game. Future projects could be writing something like Angry Birds using Box2D.
The question came up of how to get the required software onto e.g. a Windows laptop. We'll have to try this and build it into the tutorial. Alternatively, Hans has suggested booting from a Linux USB stick with an overlay. Steve will see if we can get sponsorship for a few cheap USB sticks. Yet another alternative would be to use the Raspberry Pi, although this would require sourcing a some suitable monitors (HDMI or DVI with adapter).
*Location
As many will already know, Revspace is going to have to move out of the current location by the end of the year. This will not affect the first session on 1st Sept. A new location has been found, so the dojo can move when Revspace does. If all else fails, we also have the Competa location in Rijswijk.
Planned for 21st August, 20:00 at Revspace.
Cheers,
Steve
