Hi all, and a warm welcome to our new subscribers!
Just to summarise yesterday's meeting...
Locations:
We've decided on RevSpace as our location. Not only is it more
central, but there's lots of equipment available and we may be able to
pick up a few ad-hoc mentors. Although the environment could be
considered distracting, this should hopefully foster creativity. We
can still keep Competa as a backup location.
First session:
We pencilled in our first real session (with kids) for 25th August,
10:00 to 14:30. As was half expected, I personally won't be able to
make that date. Even worse, weekends either side may be difficult due
to other events. It looks like 1st September is probably going to be
my first available date, but I'll get back with a definite proposal
tomorrow.
Frequency:
We're going to start out with sessions every two weeks. This fits best
with the current group of mentors whilst not leaving too long between
sessions.
Posters/Flyers:
I'd hoped to get these sorted today but unfortunately haven't had the
chance. I did however get some great ideas and feedback from our PR
person. I hope to work on some flyers tomorrow and/or during the
weekend. In any case we should have something by the beginning of next
week.
Subjects:
More ideas for subjects we could teach:
* Netlogo (
http://ccl.northwestern.edu/netlogo/)
* Python (e.g. kid's courses as made for Raspberry Pi).
Website/Forum:
Our web forum is online at
http://forum.coderdojo.nl/. This should
make it easier for interested parties to get in touch but it'll take a
while to reach critical mass. Have a look, sign up if you can (and let
me know if you'd like to moderate). I've been in touch with CoderDojo
HQ in Ireland about usage of the
coderdojo.nl domain, possibly as
Dutch language launchpad, but no news yet. We could use a basic site
to point people at for general information on the Den Haag dojo.
Next meeting:
We've not yet set a date for another meeting.
Do let us know if I missed out anything important...
Cheers,
Steve
