Dear all,

Happy New Year from CoderDojo Bray.

Tickets for next sessions: general release

Tickets for the next set of 6 CoderDojo Bray sessions commencing January 19th in Presentation College Bray will be put on general release on Sunday 13th January at 8pm at http://coderdojobray.eventbrite.com/.  Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis so we recommend that you access the site as near to 8PM as possible to avoid disappointment.  We are offering a total of 100 places.

Early access

Technical Mentors for these sessions get early access to tickets on Friday 11 January and will receive a separate email on 11 January with more details; to explore whether you could be a technical mentor, download this document: http://goo.gl/FYnlJ. Kids that mentored and or who attended at least 80% of the November/December sessions will get early access on Saturday 12 January and will receive a separate email with more details on 12 January.

Content and Dates

The first 2013 block of 6 sessions will have three parallel strands*:

- writing websites using HTML/CSS/Javascript

- writing games and animations using Scratch (from MIT, http://scratch.mit.edu/)

- NEW: working in small teams to build both hardware and software projects, using technology such as Raspberry Pi / Arduino / standard PCs with Javascript or C programming.

*The number of students that will be able to work on hardware/software projects depends on our availability of mentors and the cost of supplying the hardware.  We therefore cannot guarantee that your child will get to work in their preferred strand all of the time.

We will run on 19 Jan, 26 Jan, 2 Feb, then break (mid-term) until 23 Feb, 2 Mar and finish on 9 Mar.

Donations

CoderDojo is free to kids and will remain so.  A separate fund raising group of parents will be formed in 2013 to help cover our running costs.  If you are in a position to donate funds or sponsor CoderDojo Bray, or know an individual or company who would sponsor CoderDojo Bray, please email joe.ha...@gmail.com for more information. In the meantime, if you are able to donate equipment, the following is a list of items we could use; please mail br...@coderdojo.com if you can provide any of these in time for the 19 Jan session:
  • Small LCD monitors (or small LCD TVs) with HDMI input, or VGA LCD monitors with HDMI/VGA converters, plus cables. These for use with Raspberry Pi projects.
