Do we have any plans/info yet? If not, let's do it.

Alex,

Finally, some interest. To answer your question, no. No plans. I haven't organized anything like this before and I'm not exactly sure where to start. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how we could get the ball rolling. I think this could be a lot of fun for everyone.

Cool. Let me see if I can garner any interest at the Austin JS meetup this Tuesday. I'll star this and write back asap.

Looking forward to hearing from you guys. We're starting to get some more responses, as well. I'll update the group page as soon as I have a minute.

Cheers,
Gene

Free curriculum to teach kids coding:
Hoping to get students into coding? Enter Codecademy. The New York-based startup, which teaches users how to code through a free, interactive website, is now packaging its popular online lessons into free, bite-sized kits for teachers and librarians to launch their own mini-Codecademies in class or after school.

Any thought?

I may be interested in helping out as things get started.

Great. I'm new in the area and I live in Cedar Park and work in north Austin as a Game Developer.

Scratch 2.0 just released, really love its new features, you can look insides others' games' codes, and play with it, should be useful for teaching kids coding.

I teach Robotics and AutoCAD at a local Middle School in North Austin.  I came across this group recently and I am wondering if people are working with students.I am trying to build our technology program and want to have a focus on coding as a core skill for middle schoolers.  We have afterschool programs that could use some talented folks who work in different industries.

I'm investigating starting a TEALS program in Austin.  Would any of you be interested in mentoring or assisting in getting a program started?

I didn't find Austin as a location in http://coderdojo.com/.

Is this group active and meeting to teach kids programming? I would like to find out more for my child.

I am very interested in hearing about this in Austin. we have a global private school Abercorn International that is doing basic programming lessons for our older kids, gaming summer camps and 3d printing but i want to find options for after school that can work for our younger kids. It seems there is enough interest that we might want to create a brainstorming group.

thanks
Alex

Hi Alex,

I started out asking about CoderDojo in Austin. When I found out that there was none, I requested to start it. I am looking for people who are interested in joining and starting it. I have got an application from the Austin Public Library to request for meeting room once a week so we can meet at the Spicewoods Public Library.

If you know others who are interested we could start soon.

Thanks
Swathi

I don't think I have the availability to run one, but I'd be happy to help and teach.
