Hi all

Just to say thanks everyone for last Friday - it has to be said that Clonakilty's First CoderDojo was a resounding success - and it just worked!!!

Anyway just a few things to mention before next Friday

Friday 25th - Time 6:30-8:30 ....If some of you can be there at 6:00 to get set up that will be great.

VENUE
: Deirdre is going to check with David Henry if we can use a bigger room on Friday. We would just about manage 40 kids in the room we were in (with different tables). Deirdre - if we do get a bigger room will you also ask for a projector if there is no TV with HDMI access.

NOTIFYING SCHOOLS: We will ask the schools to send out an email on Tuesday to the parents to let them know we are going ahead on Friday. I will coordinate that.

REGISTRATION:
Ann emailed mykidstime.ie to see if we can use their booking system - (it is already being used successfully at Mahon). This will allow us to limit the numbers on a first registered basis. It will be a weekly registration also and it will allow us to gather all the relevant info. We are hoping to have this set up tomorrow so we can use it this week - hence delaying sending out email to schools - if we can't Ann will set up a temporary system which we can use this week.

CHILD SAFETY and PROTECTION:
For those of us who are not yet Garda Vetted we will need to complete forms and send them to LIT who are processing this for CoderDojo.
Ann - could you email the form if you have it and we could all bring them completed on Friday.
Please note they must be printed double sided on an A4 sheet and also you must put "Coder Dojo Mentor - Clonakilty" in the position field.

Deirdre and Claire are also coordinating with Tori Hawthorne at Mahon with regard to permission forms etc. etc.

Welcome also to Cora Keohane, Martin Dunlea and Brian Daly who I have included in this email.

Best regards and see you Friday!

At a CoderDojo, young people (age 7/8-17) learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and more. Dojos are set up, run by and taught at by volunteers. In addition to learning to code, members meet like minded people, show off what they’ve been working on and so on. CoderDojo makes development and learning to code a fun, sociable, kick ass experience. CoderDojo also puts a strong emphasis on open source and free software, and has a strong network of members and volunteers globally.

CoderDojo has just one rule:Above All: Be Cool“, bullying, lying, wasting people’s time and so on is uncool.

What you need to bring:

  • A laptop, if you have one (borrow if necessary) and fully charged where possible.
  • A parent! (Very important) - your parent must stay with you during the session.
  • Probably a good idea to bring a drink although refreshments can be purchased at vending machines at the Quality.
