If you are experiencing an issue please mention the full platform your issue applies to:
IDE: NetBeans/Eclipse/IDEA

Device

I have

Toolbar.setGlobalToolbar(false); // disable toolbar for full screen

set in init() to hide the title bar, and it is working for windows phone
and android.

The status bar in windows shows a black background, which is fine.
In Android it shows a greyed out background, and "floats" to the top when the
screen is rotated.

If I cannot get rid of the Android status bar, can I at least color it
to a black background ( or transparent?)

Check out the developer guide advanced section: https://www.codenameone.com/manual/advanced-topics.html

Look for the entry containing colors.xml.

Ideally we'll have a simpler solution for that. There is an RFE to add a transparent status bar for Android which I hope we'll implement for better consistency with iOS.

In advanced topics I found build hint "android.statusbar_hidden" which I added to the project.  It successfully hides the status bar in Android as I wanted.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.  -Russ
