I try to convince my company to use CodeNameOne for develpoing our apps but apparently there is no supported library( either from CodnameOne or introduced native libraries) for OCR processing and text extraction from Photos.
Any comment/advice is appreciated

We don't have an OCR API although you should be able to embed a native API similar to the ZXing demo or the google maps library http://www.codenameone.com/3/post/2014/03/mapping-natively.html
One of our customers used a webservice to perform OCR's of business cards for his requirements so it was just an issue of uploading the photo.

you might want to have a look at this http://ocrsdk.com/ - they have an excellent OCR engine.
as Shai mentioned from the mobile it's just a matter of uploading the photo
