I haven't used much of either Blazemeter or Taurus, and have a few questions about what is significantly different between the two. Please bear with me, I realize that this *might* be like asking what the difference between Asia and Japan is!

  1. From what I understand, one of the key ways that Blazemeter enhances JMeter is that it's able to run load from various IPs and devices--does Taurus also have this ability?
  2. What is the maximum load that each tool is capable of?
  3. Taurus emphasizes being able to run through automation--can Blazemeter also do that? Same question for integrating with continuous integration.

1. BlazeMeter is a platform to run tests. Taurus is a "wrapper" around JMeter and other tools. BlazeMeter is able to run Taurus tests just like it does with JMeter tests. Taurus gives some convenience around automating this process. When you invoke Taurus with "-cloud" option, it is effectively delegates all test running to be done by BlazeMeter platform.

2. Taurus alone is capable of doing the load depending on the hardware you have. BlazeMeter due to cloud resources is able to generate millions of VUs.

3. BlazeMeter's way to automate is to be launched with Taurus "-cloud" option. There is also Jenkins plugin by BlazeMeter to do it.

I see. So, putting all those together, I could integrate Taurus with my continuous integration tool, kick off a build by making a commit during which Taurus would run its tests on Blazemeter, and then pass/fail the build depending on the outcome of those tests?

Since you can integrate Selenium with Taurus, could you run Selenium scripts (whether they are front end or back end) during each loop of that load test?

Interesting. How does that work in terms of pricing? I know Taurus is open source but I've seen various plans for Blazemeter that seem to cap out around 500/month for 3,000 concurrent users unless you go to the enterprise level. If I wanted to use both would I need to opt for a Blazemeter plan?

I will direct you to BlazeMeter sales to answer this question.

Do you know how most people use Taurus? Since it seems optional if you want to use it with Blazemeter or not, do most people use them together? Or Taurus alone?

As far as I know, most of times they use it with BlazeMeter to enjoy the reporting and cloud scale. But nobody forces you, you can use it without BlazeMeter.

Is the reporting only available through Blazemeter?

No, you can also configure several result file formats to be exported, like XML or CSV.
