Hi everyone,
Welcome and thank you for joining the Code Rush competition!
This board is your place to write, share, consult and get inspired about anything Code Rush related.

Let's start off by introducing your teams - Share the name of your team and where you are from so we can get to know each other!

Happy coding!

I am new to the Code Rush challenge.  I paid the fee and created logins for my team but how exactly do I enroll them into the contest??

Hi Vincent, Welcome!
If you created accounts for your team members in your Code Rush team group, then you are all set to go.
Your team members can log in to their accounts and start the warm up stage in which they can play the first 30 challenges of CodeMonkey.
On April 3rd the competition will begin and we will unlock more challenges.

Good luck!

Tali,
I'm hoping to get a team registered for Code Rush.
My question:
Would the team members be able to work on their own at home or would all work have to take place during team meetings?
I'm thinking of meeting during lunch, but that isn't very much time.

Thanks,
Deb Cherry

Hi Deb,

Thank you for your question. It is fine for teammates to work separately however, when possible, it would be great to encourage the team to work together and help one another solve challenges.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks,

Hello,

I just joined the Code Rush and will setup the class by sharing the class code to students when I see them tomorrow during our weekly computer club meeting.  Once they have signed in to the class, are they supposed to work on Coding Adventure Part 1: Fundamentals, Coding Adventure Part II: Logic & Event, and Game Design Course from Hour Of Code?  And wait till April 3rd to work on other courses, games, and Challenges?  I am a bit confused with the setup.

Thanks.

Hello Rex,

They're supposed to work only on Coding Adventure Part 1: Fundamentals.

Its first 30 challenges are already available to them as part of the warm-up state we're currently in. Then, we will unlock additional bulks of challenges within Coding Adventure Part 1 periodically during April.

My 3rd/4th grade team named themselves the Kearney Monkdogs since we are the Kearney Bulldogs doing a Code Monkey competition.  Our team is from Missouri the Show Me State.

I am trying to register 3 teams of students from my school for the Code Rush competition.  I got the first group of 10 registered OK, but I can't figure out how to create the other 2 teams.  Anyone else have this issue?  Any help is appreciated.  The students are excited for the competition to begin.  Thanks.

Hi Tod,

Did you pay for 3 teams ($49.95 each) and use the same email address for all three transactions?

If so, please email sup...@cm-studios.com for help.

So the warm-up challenges are part of the competition?  Some of my kids worked on them earlier before I set up any groups.  Does this mean they will all have to begin again?
I didn't realize the warm-ups would count!

Hi Debra,

Yes, the score on the warm-up challenges counts. But don't worry, teams can continue playing them and improving score all throughout April! They can also back to the earlier challenges after solving more advanced ones. Having said that, we recommend solving the bulks of challenges in the order we unlock them as the skilled required to do so build on top of each other.

Best,

My students did some of the warm-ups last week, and there are no unlocked Skills challenges for them to work in right now.

Our one student who has completed the full-warm up doesn't have any unlocked Skills challenges either.

Does the entire team have to complete all 30 story challenges for the skills challenges to become available to all (or any of the team members?)

Here's pix of what one of our students is seeing:

Thank you for your help!

When are the leaderboards refreshed?  It doesn't appear that they refresh in real-time.  Is the leaderboard score based on Story Mode Stars, Skill Mode Stars, or a combination of these?  Thanks.

Hi Erin,
Can you please email us at sup...@cm-studios.com so we can take a deeper look into this?

Hi Todd!
The leaderboard refresh twice a week only - on Mondays and on Thursdays.
The score is based on the average star score of the entire team in story + skill mode challenges.

I am confused as to how the "shortest time" is calculated.  We had a team pass us on the leader board today; on Thursday we had more points than this team and today we have the same points but they are ranked above us.  My kids are asking and I don't know how to explain this.  Thanks

Hi there,
"Shortest time" is calculated based on which team reached the average star score sooner.
It is possible that the leaderboard is not reflecting the shortest time, but only looks at the average score.  We are looking into it.
However it's important to remember that all 10 teams will get the same prizes, so as long as your team is in the top 10 it's OK :)

Hello Tali,

As of April 10th, grades 3-5 have access only to 102 challenges is this correct? If so, the highest score possible should be 102 * 3 = 306. How are some teams able to score more than this?

What is the highest star point score attainable for the whole competition?

Please let me know as parents are asking these questions and I am not able to explain.

Thanks!

Hi!
Yes currently there are only 102 challenges available, bringing the top possible score to 306.
We experienced a temporary error in the score calculation for some of the groups, however it was fixed and the leaderboard has been updated with the real scores.

The highest attainable score is 420 (140 challenges * 3) .

I have a parent interested in purchasing one classroom subscription for our 20 CodeRush competitors since they clearly will not be among the winners.  The parent wants them to be able to continue to work on their coding.
What would the cost be for this?  It will most likely be purchased through me but not our school district as it is parent-funded.

Thank you

Hi Deb,

The minimum amount for ordering a bulk purchase from our sales department is $300. In your case, that would be enough for a exactly 20 full access annual student subscription (of $15 each). Those will include access to our full Coding Adventure Parts I & II, our Challenge Builder, Game Builder and three online game design courses.

Code Rush consisted of the first 70 Story Mode and Skill Mode challenges of our Coding Adventure course, which overall contains 200 Story Mode and 200 Skill Mode challenges.

The Game Builder and its online game design courses offer an excellent opportunity for learners to creatively utilize the coding skills acquired in our basic Coding Adventure courses by building and sharing original computer games!

In that case, I recommend starting a crowd funding project on DonorsChoose. Please find attached a document with detailed instructions we have prepared on how to do that.

If you will publish a link to the project here I will personally chip in. I hate to see little CodeMonkeys deprived of their bananas! :)
