Dear Morane,

Request: could you (or another PMC member) informally present and discuss CodeMeta metadata needs at ESIP on Jan 26 (details below)?

We are planning a session at the ESIP winter meeting (virtual) to discuss extensions to the https://science-on-schema.org (SOSO) guidelines that ESIP endorsed this last year for Dataset and Repository metadata. We'd like to invite you to give a short lightning talk (5 mins) and to participate in the discussion of how the guidelines could and should be extended to support other types of research metadata, particularly research software based on CodeMeta. And the connection to scicodes.net would be a nice addition too. This is one of several talks to highlight areas where schema.org could better serve research metadata interoperability. The session will be held virtually over Zoom on Jan 26 from 1:30pm to 3pm EST. See the schedule here: https://sched.co/1EwXu

I've pasted the draft agenda below, but note that we have not yet confirmed speakers and much of that may yet change. This will mostly be a discussion session, with some lightning talks for context. We'd love to have one Morane or someone else from the CodeMeta PMC participate. Please let me know, and my apologies for the late notice.

Best regards,
Matt

Lightning talks (5 mins each, 30 mins total):

  • SOSO status overview and future extensions - Jones/Shepherd (5 mins)

  • OceanInfoHub - Pier-Liugi - TimeSeries talk, GOOS, EOVs (collab & extension of SDO)

  • POLDER - Melinda Minch - Harvesting intl. Publishers (diff. metadata & adoption challenges?)

  • CodeMeta/SciCodes.net - Morane Gruenpeter or Daniel Garillo or others - software and other extension/compatibility

  • POAwg - Polar Observing Assets working group - Bill Manley or Allison Gaylord or others

Discussion (60 mins total):

  • What are areas of shared interest for extensions to the SOSO guidelines? (Jones moderator) (30 mins)

    • Goal 1 is to generate annotated list of candidate areas for extensions

    • Goal 2 is to assess shared need for those extension areas

    • Goal 3 is to assess who has an interest in contributing to editing those

  • Collaborative editing of Cluster Roadmap (Shepherd moderator) (30 mins)

    • Goal 1 is to produce a bulleted list of prioritized extension guidelines

    • Goal 2 is to assemble these into a draft roadmap for 2023 cluster activities

Dear Matt,
I would love to participate in the discussion, but I have a deadline that day, and I won't be available. Apologies.
Happy to join future events to continue the discussion.
Best,
Daniel

Dear Matt,

I am very sorry for responding to you only today.
Please let me know if there is another occasion in the future where we could discuss and present CodeMeta.

I am a very late on all my CodeMeta duties because of a big event we are having at UNESCO this week:

Let's continue this ball rolling.. planning on getting to CodeMeta tasks around mid-February.

Kind regards,
Morane

No worries, and thanks to both you and Daniel for considering the last minute request.  We had a great session, and focused on areas where there's good overlap in schema.org usage for research objects.

Best,
Matt
