Here are the hotel room rates for CodeMash 2012

TUESDAY 1/10/12 through THURSDAY 1/12/12
Hut/Run of House $88
Lodge $98
African Queen $162
Combo Suite $162
Village Suite $262

FRIDAY 1/13/12 through SATURDAY 1/14/12
Hut/Run of House $138
Lodge $148
African Queen $212
Combo Suite $212
Village Suite $312

Unfortunately, after years of getting really cheap rates on the
weekends we've had an increase for Friday and Saturday. Free market
prevails. We're still getting a fair break over the going rates those
nights, just not the amazing one we've had in years past.

Rooms will go quickly, so don't delay making reservations once you
know you're going to the conference!

Aw man, I looked at the floor plans again and now I've got that "Boom,
Kalahari… get away…" song stuck in my head.

Note to newbies: ALWAYS turn off your speakers BEFORE visiting the Kalahari site or suffer the fate the Chris mentioned below.

Also, about the 5-bedroom villas. These sound SUPER cool. They couldn't take us out to see one while we were there, but they sleep 22 people (if you grab BOTH duplexes, 44!). But ... it's not within the main building. This means that you will have to drive or take a shuttle to the conference center each day. They think that they will be running "on demand" shuttles during CodeMash, but those kinks have NOT been worked out yet.

I think that someone should rent a snowmobile and ferry people back and forth!

Honestly, I like going into the Kalahari on Tuesday night and STAYING inside while the snow piles up outside. So the 5-bedroom villa won't be my choice (in spite of the hot tub that comes with each villa ... and the washer/dryer!).

Dianne,

As a note to everyone in this group...there's only 4 of the villas remaining. :)

Snow be damned...I want my own personal hot tub!

I just reserved our room.  164.97 a night for the Lodge at CodeMash rates.  That includes me and my wife plus our 3 kids from Tuesday thru Saturday.  98 bucks a night then they added 30 bucks for one extra kid and then they added taxes and fees.

Wow.  Good thing this is a dual purpose trip!

Is there a promo code to use on the website to get the rates you mentioned below?

UPDATE: I goofed on the Lodge prices -- Lodges are actually $108
during the early days and $158 Friday/Saturday.

Sorry for the goof!

Am I to understand that while we cannot purchase tickets to code mash right now that people are already booking hotel rooms? I have a feeling I'm going to end up at a neighboring hotel then. *sigh*

I'm going to take this opportunity to remind the list that anyone can
purchase codemash tickets right now for prices similar to other
conferences. Simply become a Gold Sponsor! The price is about the same
as a ticket to an MS PDC/BUILD or a NFJS+workshops conference.

Book now if you think you might be going. They have a pretty generous
cancellation policy. Free if you're just changing the reservation, or
$25 if you cancel, IIRC, more than 72 hours in advance. We just
booked 5 combination rooms for NimblePros yesterday...

If you reserve now do they charge you for the room today? Or are they just taking a credit card number to hold the space? I'm not sure paying for the room today is even in my budget as I would be footing the bill for this trip myself.

IIRC, they charge you half now for the reservation, then the balance when you check in.

I guess people are worried about having a place to stay. You can always cancel a hotel room later if you need too. Hopefully everyone gets tickets who wants to go.

One related note: The cancellation fee is $25. So if you're holding off booking the room because you fear you might not get a ticket, you only have $25 to lose.

They charge you for the first night as a deposit on your credit card.  If you cancel they refund minus the 25 dollar fee unless you just change the reservation.

Actually my issue is financial.  I don't have the money today to pay for the hotel room.  Are there other places to stay if I don't get into the resort that are close by?  I'm also kind of hoping to find someone to room with so I can split the costs.

I just reserved a Hut Room and Village Suite for Friday and Saturday at somehow got last year's rates!

Village Suite - $262 for Friday, $292 for Saturday
Hut Room - $88 for Friday, $118 for Saturday

I'm not guaranteeing that anyone else will get these rates, but I thought I'd pass it along.

No, we haven't announced sessions yet, Jim. We're still open for
submissions, so it's a bit tough to announce the session list before
we've made the selections. :)

Sessions will be announced somewhere around 20 Oct.

Consider this one data point, but I called and booked a Combo Suite
today for Tuesday night through Saturday checkout. They gave me the
same rate for Friday night as the rest of the week. They said that
they had an early-bird policy where if you booked your room before the
end of October, they'd give you the weekday rate for Friday night too.

I don't know if this was a one-off mistake on the part of the person I
booked through, but it may be worth trying.

I booked my room and was told Friday was same as T-Th until October
31st as a special deal. I can't believe I can get a room at a resort
for $88 a night!

Thanks Jim, Jason, Dianne and the other volunteers for the awesome
deal.

I just booked a desert room at 88 a night and then 118 on Friday. Thanks codemash! Btw, desert room sleeps six and is available for the same rate as a hut so you only pay additional charges for extra guests versus checking in and out.
Now to book tickets for the conference :)

I just booked a room, and they quoted the Lodge as $108 for each
night. I said I had $98, but he had $108. I made the reservation, as
I'm hoping to sort it out here.

So, he has every night listed as $108 due to early bird reservation.
Hmm.... Actually, that turns out better than $98 for 2 nights
(wednesday and thursday) and $148 for the last night (friday). Score!

Thanks.

I just called trying to get the Lodge rooms at the $108 that Corey got
and its not available.

They have the Lodge at $108 Tue - Thurs and $158 Friday (all both
rates are $10 more than advertised). I said something about the "Early
Bird Special" that Corey mentioned and she said that she "remembers
seeing it, but it's not there any longer. Maybe it expired yesterday?"

I ended up booking a Hut for $88 Tue - Thurs and $138 Friday night.

There seems to be a good bit on confusion as to the real rates. I'd
have preferred to get the "Corey Haines Special Rate," but $88 ain't
bad!

I got my rooms booked today. The hut was $88 for Tuesday-Friday. I
then got a Lodge room for Friday and Saturday at $138 as part of the
early bird special. They rep told me she could see the note about the
early bird being until 10/31, but then the system initially would not
let her change the rate. She had to "do something else" to get it to
accept the rate change. So, it sounds like the special is still there
until 10/31, but you may have to press to get the rate since the
system seems to be giving them issues.

To be clear: There should be NO HAGGLING involved for the Tues-Thurs night rates – that’s the standard, by-contract rate.

Friday and Saturday have been the hit-or-miss room rate. If you get $88 for those nights you win. J
