Greetings!

 

I missed out on buying the tickets for codemash (surprise!) but had already made the reservations at Kalahari.

I just cancelled the reservations for 2 rooms at the resort.

A couple of you had inquired about accomodation so I thought I would let everyone know.

 

Please do let me know if you get these rooms.

I can try to persue them to  revert back the cancellation fees if the rooms are taken.

They charged you cancellation fees? I hope they weren't too steep.

They're pretty up front about the cancellation fees when you register.
$25 per room, IIRC.

I could swear I'd asked that if I transferred the room to someone
else, I'd be avoiding the cancellation fee, and they said "yes", but I
don't have that in writing.

They did charge a cancellation fees.
Like Michael mentioned, it is $25 per reservation so $50 in my case.
I was informed that if I were to find a transfer for the rooms then I could avoid the cancellation fees.

I guess they are able to push that policy. I was just curious because most hotels don't charge, or at least the hotels I stay at haven't charged me when I have cancelled.

Agreed - it's the only hotel I've dealt with that has charged cancellation fees.

While it's probably a year-round policy, given that they've sold out,
you'd think the fee would be waived - they'll have that room booked
before the screen is updated after they hit 'cancel'. But if *they*
rebook it, you still have to pay the fee, from what I can tell. But
if I bring them a replacement for the room, I don't pay the fee.

It probably all makes sense on paper, but in real life, it's annoying.
A time-sensitive cancellation fee - I'm fine with - as in, if you
cancel within 3 days of your stay, there's a fee, or something like
that (I've had a few of those over the years).

Are your rooms for Thursday night as well? How many rooms?

If anyone has a room or two rooms available for that Thursday night, January 12 and is no longer going to be able to use them. We are currently looking for rooms for that evening. I would be more than happy to take them off of your hands and have them transferred to our name.
