Depends on what you're trying to do. I use a slew of vi emulators. There's vimperator for firefox (free), ViEmu for SQL Server Management Studio and Visual Studio (2010 beta still a bit buggy) (not-free but worth the investment), gVim (bleh), and viPlugin for Eclipse (not free). Any particular environment / setup you're trying to get vi emulation in, or just in general?

I also use notepad++ heavily since I didn't like gVim all that much.

Thanks for the exhaustive list. Do you know of any tools that let you edit text files from the command line? That's what I'm really looking for.

If that's the case, then you could just install cygwin or something similar and have both vim and a unix-like shell.

Of course, you could also go here:
and just download the executable which comes with both a GUI version and a CLI, I believe.

That would also cure your "ls" problem.
