Thanks for the prod to put up a more prominent page describing what
code4lib is at code4lib.org:

http://code4lib.org/about

A name is important, but sometimes having a goofy one that doesn't
have any implicit meaning is good so you can morph as needed. The
reality I think is that code4ilb definitely grew out of the library
community, but it's much more inclusive than that now--and we need to
do better at getting that message across.

GAM content is welcome (and wanted) on code4lib :-)

+1

Code4Lib has had a "big tent" philosophy for a while, and I'd like to
see it continue expanding. We're all pursuing many of the same goals.

Ed & Mike,

Yep, the division was intended to be geographical rather than philosophical!

We have been looking with envy at what you guys have been doing over
there and were wondering whether we might be able to organise
something similar in Australia - though making the GLAM connections a
bit more explicit. I suppose I could have called this list
code4glamau, but the anti-imperialist in me bridles at the necessity
of other countries having to assert that they're not the US (we've had
enough of that with domains). ;-)

Anyway, I'll be encouraging people here to sign up for the code4lib
list and keep an eye on the journal. And if we do manage to get
something going here I hope there'll be many opportunities for
co-operation, cross-overs etc.

Cheers, Tim

Then I guess what would be awesome would be if you could start up code4lib in Australia. You could start a page on the code4lib wiki, and talk about it on the discussion list. You might be surprised by the non-US membership.

I guess it is fine to start code4glamau, but one of the main reasons why code4lib came into existence was that fragmented conversations were going on and we wanted to bring them together under a big tent, as Mike nicely put it.
