I took another look at the Nevada Report Card API and wrote an R script to interact with the parts I thought were relevant. I put it up on Github [0], and there's also a repository with the script's source and output [1]. TL;DR: We can pull most of what we need from the school side via the CSV API. We can then pull in additional external data, contingent on what Downtown Achieves wants to measure.
A couple of thoughts:
First, I'm aware that R isn't everybody's favorite language, so if people are interested in collaborating more closely I'm certain we can do much of what we want in Python instead. There's also the plot.ly API [2] for visualization.
Second, I should also note that I'm operating under the assumption that our audience will be the DA stakeholders and interested members of the public rather than parents or educators, as such.
