[cod-photolist] Looking for a recommendation on a scanner

I bought a new laptop with Win7 32- bit and new desktop with Win7 64-bit and my current scanner - Canoscan 8000F does not work with either operating system.

So I am looking to buy a new scanner and looking for a recommendation.

I am annoyed at Canon for not providing the appropriate drivers (even though they claim the scanner can be used on the Win7 32-bit - It does not work) so I am leaning toward Epson.

I think I am ready to upgrade beyond a base model flat bed scanner but not sure how to determine that.  I want something a little more high-end - that will also scan film and negatives.  I would like to stay under $500, if possible.

Any suggestions?
