Dear Friends,
Could you advice, if it is required to add salt ( common salt) to
coconut trees annually. I see people do it and have been advised to do
so . Since we grow things organically, won't the salt kill the soil
microbes?
If it is acceptable and required, what is the quantity and frequency
of adding salt.

Thank you
Warm regards
Delson Roche.

I think using sea solids is better than salt.
Sea solids without salt has all the minerals required withaout the negative effects of salt.

In situations far from the coast coconut can be deficient in chlorine. This was shown in places in the Philippines. Adding salt (NaCl) might be doing good by supplying chlorine. Salitre is the same as (English) salt peter – NaNO3 – sodium nitrate. It would not help with chlorine deficiency but the nitrogen could be good for the palms.
