Hi Everyone,

Good Day!

I would like to ask for your assistance or expertise about common additives these coconut oil mills, refineries or even big stores are using. My brother is doing some research on coconut produce and after assessing its oil value, there is this 1 particular store who has a very low price that even some stores even a mill down south would be having a hard time to compete. In addition to this, coconut oils have different colors, I think mostly based on its refining process and quality but what we would really like to know is the additives. If you guys have ideas, it will be greatly appreciated and same thing for the people in this group who are interested to know about it as well.

Thanks Much,
Aldrin

Ravi

The two oils are not very different chemically but palm kernel has only half as much of Caprylic and capric fatty acids (8% versus 15%), and twice as much oleic (14% versus 6%) as coconut oil so would have a lower melting point. I would be concerned about how the PKO was extracted as I think solvents might be used.

Diluted and adulterated coconut oil.
Sad practice.
Few consumers know

Very common. Big brands in India do this. What does the consumer know ? Does the Coconut Board know and if so what are they doing about it ?
