Dr CONRADO S. DAYRIT (1909-2007), a dedicated Nationalist, an eminent Academician, an admired Medical Doctor-Scientist  and  a consistent  of Protector of the Coconut Oil.

After 88 years with his family as a dedicated father and talented man,  in his journey in life, he gave his best earnestly and  served with great relevance his  country and people from many walks of life.  Indeed, nobody in the "coconut oil world" will forget his immense contribution to the local and the  global coconut industry ____ Dr Dayrit's consistent, glaring and persistent efforts to help  uncover the truth about lauric oil-rich  coconut oil thru his medical practice and research.  In recent years, many believe and claim  that this coconut oil extracted from its fruit/nut, is one of the healthiest cultivated  plant oil crops, widely grown in the humid tropics,  safely processed as an  energy food and health oil,  and edible cooking oil/fats.

A glimpse of history, if you wish and it matters to you.  The late Dr Dayrit (MD, FPCP, FPCC and FACC), the recognized coordinator and prncipal investigator of the Philippine-Harvard Medical School Coconut Oil Research Study, Professor of Pharmacology (University of the Philippines-College of Medicine); Chairman/President of the National Academy of Science and Technology; Vice-President for Medical Affairs, United Laboratories (Philippines) and many more significant positions, eloquently delivered his landmark  intellectual and general paper " Health Aspects of Coconut of Coconut Oil" at the World Conference and Exhibition of Lauric Oils. held in Manila on 20- 25 February 1994. Subsequently in October 1994, his excellent paper and extensive paper was published by the United Coconut Association of the Philippines (UCAP) in its Journal-Magazine, the Coconuts Today (vol 11 (1): 81-88 & 128-132).

In his milestone scientific and advocacy paper, his mission and immense efforts then (several years before the advent of commercially produced virgin coconut oil 'natural white oil' or VCO is to contribute to the understanding of the truth about coconut oil thru unbiased science.  Dr Dayrit in his lengthy paper stressed: "this paper seeks to correct once again this unfair classification and emphasize the fact that while the long-chain saturated fats, when taken in large amounts, may indeed be coronary heart disease-associated, particularly in persons genetically predisposed, the medium-chain triglycerides and coconut oil as a whole have not been shown to have any such associatio but indeed are safe and useful"  That was his strong words.

Many people in the Asian and Pacific communities and elsewhere apparently tool his strong serious  message, and in the following years until his peaceful demiss.  Dr Dayrit in his burning desire to promote the food/nutrition and health, the wellness and medicinal values  of the coconut (meat/kernel, coconut tender water, coconut oil ) had been extremely busy in many aspects and activities, despite his senior age.

Frankly speaking, I'm not sure if Dr Dayrit knows me by body and heart, but one thing I'm sure about when he speaks I listen well. His works and writings are excellent references.

To Dr Dayrit ____ you have been a constant inspiration for us in coconut research. I believe God wishes you to join Him in eternal peace.  All the best in your journey to heaven where you deserve a secured, peaceful and holy place.

Cheers and Bessings to All,
