Made this small video earlier this month (November 2009) in Zambézia
Province, Northern Mozambique.
The location is the site for the germplasm evaluation trial (for
resistance to Lethal Yellowing - CLYD).
With many palms being killed all around by CLYD, and not being cut and
burnt, the rhinoceros beetle (Oryctes monoceros??) started multiplying
a lot.
Now Oryctes control is a must and a continuous job.
The guy featured in the video goes around everyday looking for and
removing adults still chewing on the coconut trees. That's is daily
job. Everyday. He covers about 30 ha everyday.
