Hi,

I am thinking about giving a talk on Auto Layout somewhere in the near future at one of the CocoaHeads meet-ups. I've only started using it about half a year a go, but I have been using it for a lot since then. The talk would consist of a quick introduction and some more advanced tips and tricks.

What I am wondering is the following: is Auto Layout still something that people are relatively new to? (It has been available for years, but I know that I didn't use it for a long time) and/or is it something people want to hear more about?

Le me know what you think, so I can gauge the interest.

Thanks,
Thomas

I would be interested! Never used it so far.

Cheers,

Jos

I've rejected to use it for a long time, but have been forced to use it now with iOS 7. The UI is crap, the developer experience is awful and the debugging is nonexistent.

So all-in-all : it has been a kicking-and-screaming process, but now I gradually see the light, for UI where it is useful. Struts are still infinitely easier to use.

Watching the WWDC videos helped more than reading the documentation.

So I guess a lecture is welcome :-D

Auto layout is powerful.

Syntax is weird through from code. Tried Masonry already?

Thanks for the feedback.

I've only used native Auto Layout syntax so far. I am aware of the nice libraries that make Auto Layout life easier and will probably start using one in the future, now that Auto Layout's (initial) magic has worn off.

Hi Thomas,

From the comments here, it sounds like Auto Layout is a topic that people have very different experiences and opinions about. So I think it would make a great talk.

When would you like to present?

Peter

Thanks for the feedback! Indeed, it seems that Auto Layout would be a useful/interesting topic to talk about and I'll gladly do that.

It won't be ready for this week's meeting, maybe the one after that. I'll let you know.

Thanks again!
Thomas

Hee Thomas,
I too rejected it for a long time, but starting to discover some real niceties there ;)
Would be great to hear from you what your experience is with Auto Layout.

regards,
Gijs

I am dying to start using auto layout on my current project... But iOS 5 support is still a requirement. /cry

As a reference for that framework I mentioned earlier, NS Reisplanner app is using the Masonry framework. (Colleague works on that project.)
