All,

I've set up this forum topic to discuss the post I made earlier on the www.cocoaheads.be website: CocoaHeads Code Retreat

Please let us know your thoughts.

I like the idea, but I think I would not be staying over. Or at least not a complete week.

A week is indeed quite long:

what about picking some dates where we work a full day,  like NSCoderNight but a full day.
Eg:  we meet at one location quite early, on a good, silent area, we can work on personal projects, eat something together, and keep working till... or we end in a café to discuss more the issues we had that day.
on `regular` basis, not weekly but... eg NSCoderDays!

With kind regards

If it's about hacking together on a (semi-)regular basis: everybody's always welcome at OpenHack http://openhack.github.io/kontich/ . Third Thursday of the month.

I like the idea ... maybe I would finally be able to finish one of my free-time projects !

I would definately be in. I feel that one day would be too sort for this to be gratifying enough. You can do a lot in a week, and even more in an atmosphere where everybody is hacking away.

What about a combination of a mid-week with a weekend (wed-fri + fri-sun)?
If you can spare the time, you can come from wednesday to sunday.
If you don't want to sacrifice weekdays, you can come in the weekend.
If you value family time, you could only come a mid-week.

Coming for just a day (with or without stayover) should be possible too I guess, but that increases the "logistics" part (catering, splitting costs, ...) a bit. Not sure that would be a problem.

Regarding costs: how many of us are freelancing? I can imagine spending a week "off work" would be more justifiable if you could recover some of the costs in some way?
That said: you're spending (a lot) of time on an "investment" anyway, so it would be a good idea to reduce costs as much as possible, so that this can be open for as many people as we want.

I'm interested, too! I would prefer a week.

Roompot has some pretty cheap holiday parks (http://www.roompotparken.nl/vakantieparken/belgie/), maybe that's an option?
I guess finding a location with acceptable network connectivity will be the biggest challenge...

I'm definitely interested. I don't know whether I could block 5 days for this, it'll depend on the current workload/dates though.

Interesting concept, but a full week can be a lot. Yet, I understand it can be the right duration for those escaping client work. Optional per-day slots could be nice, with at least a kernel of people committing for the whole week.

I just saw this on Twitter. A slightly different take on a code retreat.
