Guys, with many thanks to Tim Webster at Uber and Pat Richards for organising, you can now ride in style to Cocoaheads!
This month, Uber is making it simple for you to ride to and and then home from Cocoaheads in comfort and style. But before we jump in to the specifics of how to do this, you may be wondering…
What is Uber anyway?
Uber is a game-changing startup who's smartphone app connects you to your nearest available chauffeur driven car. Founded in San Francisco 3 years ago, Uber is expanding rapidly (it's growing faster than eBay) and is now in over 30 cities around the world. A true traveller's app, you can request a car using the same account and login details in every city.
How does the app work?
Just open the app, set your pickup location and request a ride. Within seconds, your nearest car will be on its way. You’ll know who your driver is because their photo and vehicle details are shown. Plus, you can see them make their way to you on the map. But don’t worry about tracking them – we’ll text you when they’re about to arrive! Let your driver know where you’re headed then sti back and relax. When you arrive, just hop out and we’ll email you a Tax Invoice right away!
What are we offering to Cocoaheads?
New users who sign up here will score a free ride to and from the event tonight! Free means a trip fare up to $50 and for your free ride to kick in, you need to arrive and leave from the streets around Storey Hall: Swanston St, Latrobe St or Franklin St. Free rides must begin by 1am.

For existing riders:
You already know what comfort and reliability looks like! For tomorrow night only you’ll receive 50% off your rides to and from the event. Like the offer for new users, rides must begin in the streets around Storey Hall.
All you need do is open the app, tap the icon in the top left, tap promotions and enter the code: CocoaheadsMay.
If you’ve never ridden in an Uber before, you may be wondering:
Can I book a car in advance?
Uber is a strictly on-demand service and we don’t accept reservations in advance. The app will give you a real time ETA of your nearest driver, so check the app before you’re ready to leave.
Why do I have to enter my credit card? Isn’t this ride free?
The great thing about Uber is that when you ride, you hop in and hop out and we automatically send you a receipt. No cash or in-car payment is required! For this efficient magic to happen, we ask you to enter your credit card information. If you’ve also received Uber credits or free rides, they’ll be used before your card is charged.
I thought this ride was free? Why does my receipt show me the fare?
Your receipt will display the fare cost and below the charge, it will show the promotional discounts that have been applied.
Be sure to check out our reliable coverage area and sample fares. Need help, shoot Tim at Uber an email at supportm...@uber.com.
FWIW, I can’t speak highly enough of Uber. I use them over here in the States and they’re simply AWESOME. Congrats on getting a deal for the event – great work.
Also, for those coming over to the US for WWDC, try this out and get your account set up in advance. Getting cabs in and around WWDC is a nightmare – and while Uber will likely be busy during that period too, they may well be your best bet for getting around SF during the show.
Cheers, Dave.
