Hi guys,

I'm a local Brisbane developer and am not much of an interface builder person, I much prefer to create all my SDK objects in code.  But, interface builder was still always useful for positioning of my objects within my view.  I can use it to create objects, see how they look together and then 'slowly' switch between windows as I copy their attributes.

Sometimes I also like to put together mockups and wireframes.  Great and all, but I'm not very good at Photoshop and even with my stencil kit and paper, I wasn't making very good wireframes.  Plus, I couldn't use all of these tools while I was on the bus home.

So, I made Dapp :).  I can now design my mockups on my iPhone and export them to Wireframe PDF documents.  I can also export any of my mockup designs into a UIView objective-c class.  Saves me a ton of time.

I'm considering extending my export to code to also generate the view controllers.  But, all in good time :).

Thought some of you might find the app useful.  I'm also keen to hear any feedback on features as Developers are our target audience.  You can find more details about Dapp at - http://dapp.kerofrog.com.au

I will be creating guides and tutorials in the coming days.

Regards,
Cliff.

Hey Cliff,

Looks pretty neat!

On the topic of prototyping, does anyone here use Interface (http://lesscode.co.nz/interface
) or Briefs (http://giveabrief.com) for prototyping? I tend to use
OmniGraffle for my own prototyping purposes, but I'm interested in
finding something that's useful for showing to clients as well.

Cheers,

Nathan

Hi guys, thanks for the support :).

> RE: mockups on iPhone

It actually works surprisingly well.  On one hand, you won't be able to make mockups as fast as you could on an iPad (due to iPhone keyboard), but the pure mobility of it and always having your iPhone on you is nice.

I've started a create your own iPhone app using Dapp video tutorial series.  I'm covering the whole project scope, including requirements, mockups, databases... all the way up to submitting the app I make in the tutorial to the app store.  Of course I'm keeping the app simple and it's nothing terribly complicated :), but the first video does show how the app works.

> RE: prototyping

Due to this being a mockup app, I have purposely made the views static (as in disabled user interaction on buttons/tableviews etc.)... however, if you export them to code then you can hook up all the views to view controllers and quickly have a prototype up and running.  I'll probably be demonstrating this in the next video tutorial :).

Cheers,
Cliff.

Hi guys,

Dapp is now available for $12.99 AU in the Australian app store. :)

Dapp app store link

One of Dapp's main features is the automated code generator included in the app and I'm keen to get feedback on what code automation other developers would like to see, anything that can help you guys get your job done quicker.  Contact us link

Next version will have action support, allowing you to auto-generate code that will hook up different views and respond to user events.

cheers,
Cliff.

Hi guys,

Dapp has been featured in the US and other app stores around the world.  It's true when they say that being featured has a huge impact on sales.

Just wanted to say best of luck with all your projects, and I look forward to seeing many more Aussie app developers getting featured. :)

Cheers,
Cliff.

Can you tell us how much of an impact?

Does apple notify you of the featuring? How long do you get featured for?

Approximately 10 times our previous sales.  I understand that this number depends on where you are featured, and is higher when you are featured in 'Whats Hot'.  We are currently featured in the 'New & Noteworthy' section.

Apple doesn't notify you, generally you will find out when you see a sharp spike in sales.  From what I have read, it lasts for 4 weeks.  Each week a new group of 8 apps is added to the 'stack', with the bottom 8 apps of the 32 slipping out of the featured section.  Although, naturally I can not confirm this just yet.

Cheers,
Cliff.

My Boxing Timer app was featured in New & Noteworthy and I also experienced about 10 times the number of sales.

In my case the feature only lasted a week.

Thanks,
Chris.

Yeah, similar.  Gamebook Adventures was featured in a few countries,
but it only lasted about a week.  We definitely had more sales, but it
is hard to put a number on it since we had some decent press coverage
at the same time.

Cheers!
