I meant to send this out last week, but time just got away from me.
We need a speaker for the upcoming November 9th meeting. Any
volunteers? We're a pretty easy-going group, and presentations don't
have to particularly formal. If we don't have any volunteers, perhaps
we could just get together for what an old friend used to call, a
"Nerds-Night-Out". It might be a good opportunity to plan the next
six months, and work out the logistics of the proposed "book club"
reading of Kent Beck's "SMALLTALK Best Practice Patterns".

I would be willing to present somewhat regularly (I'm trying to collect a bag of topics), _except_ that I can't make second Wednesday of any month until summer.

I can present on another day (almost any other day of the week, or the first Wednesday of the month) as a one-time deal.  (Of course, moving the regular meeting date would be really cool - if nobody minded.)

And I apologize to those who expected me to present on Storyboards - I'm booked the second week of November and December unfortunately.

Best,

And I'm out of town that week, too. :(

Any opinions regarding Jason's suggestion of moving the meeting date either as a one shot, or permanently?  Personally, I'm willing to see the date move if it helps to keep us meeting.  I work at home, and while I enjoy plenty of human contact on a daily basis, I don't get much geek time.  Twitter, blogs, and email just don't do it.  CocoaHeads and the occasional conference represent my primary nerd diet, and I'd like to keep it going.

For November if that would help...

As for December, I didn't realize the second Wednesday came so late - I can commit to presenting on Storyboards on the 14th (our regular meeting) if people would be interested. I can present on something else if people prefer or just quietly watch if they would prefer that.

I'm up for moving the meeting date permanently if need be. It's usually a good day for me, but I'm with Craig. Need me some geek time! :)

Does meetup.com let you propose and select meeting times among a group? I wonder if switching to that system would be helpful. A lot of other user groups make use of it.

I am very interested in Storyboards. Daniel, it would be great if you
could present.

I'm interested in hearing about storyboards.  I am also interested in the Smalltalk Best Practices Patterns book.  Does anyone know of a good link to get up to speed on Smalltalk enough to understand the book?

As far as changing the meeting goes, I am not available the first or third Wednesdays of the month.  I'm also not available on Tuesdays.  Those are my guitar nights.  Other nights are available for CocoaHeads nerd time.

As an aside, I've been spending some of my personal nerd time looking into various web api's and trying to build a hybrid app that uses HTML5 inside a webview.  But, I still personally prefer objective-C to javascript.   So, that is an interesting topic for me too.  Anyone know of a good link that explains that?

(I realize I can google all of this stuff, I just thought someone on this list might know of some good links.)
