It took a little while to post, but for anyone interested, our
NSNumberFormatter subclass supporting input, display, and autoranging of
numbers with metric units, which I presented at the last CocoaHeads, is

It includes (separately) the trivial demo app I showed. I haven't
written a README yet, but it should be pretty clear how to use (it's
just an NSNumberFormatter, after all).
Standard BSD 3-clause license.
