H^*(G(2,4)) real Grass

Hi all,

 

Several weeks ago I sent an email asking whether the De Rham cohomology of real Grassmannian is generated as a free R-algebra by some characteristic classes of its tautological bundle. Zhu Yi said it's not true for G(2,4). I write the proof of that in my term paper. I think it might be a good example for those who learn Bott & Tu this year. I take it out so that interested people can read. It involves some computation using Leray spectral sequence.

Dear Xue Ke,

Please let me correct myself. I have no idea what happen for real Grassmanian. All I said is that it is not true for complex Grassmanian. Thanks for letting us known your result.
