Error using initCobraToolbox (line 181)

In the /usr/local/MATLAB/R2017b/toolbox/matlab directory, I did sudo git clone https://github.com/opencobra/cobratoolbox.git.
I then opened MATLAB 2017b by sudo /usr/local/MATLAB/R2017b/bin/matlab, and navigated to /usr/local/MATLAB/R2017b/bin/matlab/cobratoolbox in the 'Current Folder' window.
Upon entering initCobraToolbox in the 'Command Window', I get the following output:

The submodules could not be initialized.

Please suggest me a fix to this issue.

We dont support 201*a versions because we dont get a matlab pre-release and instead focus on 201*b support, to date, 2016b.

Hi Bhushan,

May you clone the cobratoolbox into a personal directory, i.e. your home (~/) without sudo?

This error is most likely linked to the fact that you cloned into a system folder using super user (sudo) rights, which are not set when running initCobraToolbox.

Disabling SSL certificate verification using git config --global http.sslVerify "false" fixed the issue.
