Windows 10 MATLAB Cobra Toolbox error: could not lock config file .git/config: Permission denied

Hi all. I am new to MATLAB & Cobra and using Cobra Toolbox for MATLAB on a 64 bit WIndows 10 machine. 

When I initialize the toolbox with the command 

initCobraToolbox, I have 2 issues.

1. The error message flashes:

"could not lock config file .git/config: Permission denied"

I looked up on internet, installed Git exactly as specified in the link below.


Still no luck. Even modified the permission of the gitconfig file but in vain...

2. I have installed Curl. Still the message says

"> Checking if curl is installed ...  (not installed)."

I have added the folder of curl.exe fo path in MATLAB and also in the PATH variable.

From the link below, when I typed curl --version in CMD, it didn't give any error but didn't give the version of curl either.



Due to these issues, I am unable to proceed further and can't do anything.

What seems to be the problem? solutions much appreciated...Thanks!

Hi,

How did you install the COBRA Toolbox? Did you do:

$ git clone https://github.com/opencobra/cobratoolbox.git cobratoolbox

? May you also post the output of >> generateSystemConfigReport here?

Error using diary
C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2017b\toolbox\cobratoolbox\COBRAconfigReport.log: Cannot open file: permission
denied.

Error in generateSystemConfigReport (line 48)
    diary(fullPathReportFile);


I am using MATLAB 2017b.

Hello Nikhil:

If you want to install the cobra toolbox in your matlab toolbox folder, you have to make sure, that you have write access to that folder during your matlab session, i.e. either matlab has to be run as admin, or (better) you have to change the permissions for the folder containing the cobra toolbox to allow users to write. 

A simple solution to your problem is likely to just install the toolbox in a different folder (e.g. your User Folder), where you surely have access.
