Chico Basin Ranch Banding Station Report-Bird Conservancy of the Rockies-September 18, 2026

The day was better than yesterday bird wise. It is always good to see birds. An Ovenbird early on was the highlight of the day. Three recaptures where 2 of the three birds gained weight. The other was a Brown Thrasher did not gain weight.  However, there are many hanging around the station throwing leaves with their bills looking for bugs.

Wilson's Warbler- 13

Orange-crowned Warbler- 2

Ovenbird- 1

N. House Wren- 1

Lincoln's Sparrow- 1

Gambel's White-crowned Sparrow- 2

Song Sparrow- 1

Green-tailed Towhee- 1

Spotted Towhee- 1

Swainson's Thrush- 2

3 Recaptures

Brown Thrasher- 1 individual did not gain weight/mass; 1 gained almost a half of a gram.

Swainson's Thrush banded 3 days ago gained over 4 grams.
