We began our month-long fall migration banding season here at Connected Lakes with the Grand Valley Audubon Society today. I guess the Bushtit’s heard the news and came to welcome us back! Today’s highlights were the scrub jay and the White-breasted Nuthatch (2nd capture of this species since 2008 at this site). Overall, 35 banded/recaptured birds across 7 species isn't too bad for day one!

32 Newly Banded Birds:

Bushtit: 24

House Finch: 1

MacGillivray’s Warbler: 1

Spotted Towhee: 1

White-breasted Nuthatch: 1

Wilson’s Warbler: 3

Woodhouse’s Scrub-Jay: 1

3 Recaptured Birds

Bushtit: 3

The station will operate daily (Monday-Friday) from around 7:00a-1:00p (weather dependent) until October 10th.

We’re located at James M Robb Colorado River State Park by the Kingfisher parking lot. Follow the yellow signs pointing to the banding station! Feel free to stop by when we’re around! Or join us on our Public Day on Sept 27th.

*** Note: State park entrance fees apply. More information about Ridgway State Park can be found here.

Have a blessed day!
