I set out to Union Reservoir this morning to try to pick up the scoters that Steve Mladinow reported yesterday. I was not successful on that count (Union is a big place, and the flock always appears to be on the other side). I did observe one first year Sabine’s Gull, Great Egret, 2 Franklin’s Gulls, 5 grebe species (missing Red-necked), 9 duck species, and other stuff.
From Union, I crossed back to Old South Road in Lyons (Boulder) were there was an incredible array of birders present—at least 30 traipsing along the road. I was able to turn up several Hermit Thrushes and one Wilson’s Warbler. Seeing expected Canyon Wren and American Dipper was also nice.
