Visitors:Birgit Arvin arrived just as we were watching the woodpecker. Other people
strolled by but no other bird watchers stopped.
Weather:Today started out sunny and warm with a good south wind. Eventually clouds
increased and the temperatures cooled for a very comfortable day. The winds
appeared to be forming a vortex over the ridge, Rooney Vally North winds
and observation South winds. This unfortunate pattern seemed to discourage
migrants from using the ridge
Raptor Observations:We had a few easy to see raptors early but very quickly birds began flying
very high. In spite of excellent cloud cover, we located only a handful of
raptors in the afternoon moving very, very high west of observation.
Non-raptor Observations:Lewis’s Woodpecker perched on the power line pole for several minutes,
Pygmy nuthatch, western kingbird, yellow-rumpled warbler, broad-tailed
hummingbird, cliff swallow.
