Hello birders,
Wife Barb and I drove to South Platte Reservoir
today for the first time. No phoebe, mockingbird, or long-tailed duck,
but glad to see Greater Scaup, southeast of the reservoir at Blackrock Lake,
thanks to Joe Roller’s recent post.
On our way home we stopped at Wheat Ridge Greenbelt and
were surprised & encouraged to see nesting Great Blue Herons
and Double-crested Cormorants in the trees on the island in Tabor Lake, where
we also saw all three mergansers.
Such nesting despite a lot of snow & ice everywhere
seems to be a good start to March. Spring is on the way.
(Paula Hansley taught me years ago that no visit to Wheat
Ridge is complete without a stop at Vincenza’s Italian Bakery for a Napoleon.
Buono appetito!)
