Hi COBirders,
Susan Craig and I have begun migration banding at Clear Springs Ranch, south of Fountain, off I-25, across from the Nixon Power Plant.
We've wondered when Yellow Warblers migrate South, as we don't catch many after the middle of August. Well, it looks like NOW.
Banding Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week has yielded about 15 YEWA, mostly hatch-year birds. This was only banding for about 2 hours each day, and from 8-9 nets. Things go dead pretty quickly after about 830.
Other species banded this week:
Am Robin - mostly juveniles
Gray Catbird - mostly juveniles
House Wren - mostly juveniles
Lazuli Bunting - adult male
Black-headed Grosbeak - adult female, and juvenile
Spotted Towhee - recaps from 2010 and 2008, and one juvenile
Yellow-breasted Chat, adult female
and captured, but not banded, Rufous Hummingbird female, and Calliope Hummingbird female
More soon,
Happy Migration!
