The rain stopped long enough for us to get in a full morning of banding. Under grey skies but pleasant temperature, we banded 40, caught 3 returns, and recaptured 8 banded earlier this season. The most notable thing today was catching mostly young (hatched last year) Yellow Warblers - they tend to arrive after the adults. Catbirds continue to come through in record numbers.
Here's today's breakdown of the 43 new birds for today:
Western Wood-pewee 4
Willow Flycatcher 1
Red-eyed Vireo 1
Northern House Wren 1
Swainson's Thrush 7
Gray Catbird 7 new, 2 returns (both banded in 2024)
Yellow Warbler 8 new, 1 return (banded 2021, recaught 22, 23, 24)
Common Yellowthroat 3
Western Tanager 2 (FOS)
Lincoln's Sparrow 2
Bullock's Oriole 2
American Goldfinch 2
We are entering our final week - we are closed tomorrow (Monday) and then banding Tuesday through Saturday weather permitting. (Taking down the station on Saturday after banding.) There are opportunities for the public to visit through the
Denver Audubon website. (Some days are sold out, so sign up now if you are interested!)
