COBirders,
28 enthusiastic birders split into 4 groups for the annual Fountain Creek Regional Park spring count. There were good numbers of migrants combining for 80 species. Highlights included Northern Parula and Chestnut-sided Warblers, Northern Waterthrush, Brown Thrasher, and record-high 4 Yellow-breasted Chats.
Compared with count record highs in 2009 and 2011 of 116 species (planets almost aligned….), we were 4.5 species below the 28-year average of 84.5 species for the spring count. Chestnut-sided Warblers and Pintail were recorded for the second time ever on the count. Species high-counts for Pine Siskin and Spotted Towhee were of note.
Thanks to Dianna Beatty for helping with the compilation!
