Glossy Ibis, Boulder No, Weld Yes

Greetings All

Alas, no Glossy Ibis or fancy BW x GW Teal hybrid was to be found along 119th where they'd been stationed over this past weekend in Boulder County

However, the pond at the corner of CO-119 and Weld CR 7 had a flock of about 14 ibis with one Glossy in it today. An eagle went over and the ibis left, but may well return.

Yesterday, sorry for late new, but not that hot, there was a Pectoral Sandpiper at the n end of Loloff Reservoir. Plus tons of Ruddy Ducks, BN Stilts and Am Avocets.

On Friday, up in Park County, at 11-mile Reservoir, the abundance first noted by David S was still present. Among the 3000-4000 birds were 3 Barrow's Goldeneyes (2 males, 1 female), 2 Greater Scaup, 5 Common Loons ... and standing on the iceshelf, a Thayer's Gull and a LBB Gull (both first cycle). Make ice and they will come.

Spinney Reservoir was an ice cube. Antero is starting to melt around the edges, but had few birds within viewing range.

On behalf of Cobirders, let me thank you for your report.  The chase is on.

 

On both Saturday evening and Sunday mid-day the ibis gang at the flood created pond at Boulder Creek and 109^th Street in Boulder County numbered exactly 14 White-faced Ibis and 1 Glossy Ibis.  I think you found the same guys and gals (or “re-found” in the proper sense of the word).  Now, here is a further question of your observation.  Both times when I looked at this gang, I eventually found the Glossy more or less by itself between two groups of seven White-faced each.  Go figure.
