Fort Collins Audubon Society is sponsoring drop-in bird counts at public locations as part of the annual Great Backyard Bird Count. Locations and times are listed below; stop by when you want, find our volunteers, count birds, and stay as long as you like. Caveat for the COBIRDS "hard core": These are intended primarily as social activities with no expectation of rare bird sightings.

FRIDAY 2/16, 8-11am: Nix Farm Natural Area, 1745 Hoffman Mill Road, Fort Collins
SATURDAY 2/17, 9-11am: Gardens at Spring Creek, 2145 Centre Ave, Fort Collins

According to the gbbc website, " If you already participate in the eBird citizen-science project, please use eBird to submit your sightings during the GBBC. Your checklists will count toward the GBBC."

Have a great weekend,

Hi Colorado Birders,

Some of the checklists submitted whether via eBird or GBBC will have species that are unusual for the location or in unusually high numbers. Such unusual species or high counts are caught by eBird's county filter system and flagged for review by eBird reviewers. The GBBC event is anticipated to lead to an increase in submissions and review load. So it is very helpful for the review process if birders are proactive and, if prompted due to rarity or high count, please always provide some supporting descriptive notes about the bird if it is flagged as unusual, or notes about how a high count was made. For species flagged as "rare", include details about what you saw and/or heard that led to your identification. For the latter you could indicate, for example, that the high count was an exact count, or you kept an ongoing tally, an you made a careful estimate, or it is a rough guess at a number.

With apologies, the correct dates for the Fort Collins events are Friday 2/13 and Saturday 2/14, not the 16th and 17th as originally posted.
