Larimer County Rarities 19 May

Jacy Bernath-Plaisted and I did a Larimer County big day today and found/refound several rarities as we traveled from the mountains down to the prairie tallying 173 species.  Here are some of the highlights:

Northern Goshawk flyby at Many Parks Curve in Rocky Mountain National Park

Eastern Phoebes and Northern Waterthrush at both Oxbow Natural Area and Morey Wildlife Reserve in Loveland

Ovenbird at the usual spot in Rist Canyon

Canvasback and Hooded Merganser on the Poudre Trail just west of Taft Hill Road

Bobolink at Reservoir Ridge Natural Area

Red-headed Woodpecker at Boxelder Creek on the road to Soapstone Prairie

Common Gallinule at the Schware Unit of the Wellington State Wildlife Area

Palm and Chestnut-sided Warblers on the north side of the wet spot on the west side of the Cobb Lake Unit of the Wellington State Wildlife Area

Cackling Goose at City Park in Fort Collins

Bonaparte's Gull on Owl Canyon Road north of Poudre Reservoir #3

There were probably others, but it was a long day and my memory might be better tomorrow.
