Bird Conservancy Banding Station Report - Chatfield, 5/3/16

The story of the first 4 days of banding at Chatfield is about Yellow-rumped Warblers.  So far, almost half of the birds caught have been Yellow-rumpeds - 24 Myrtles, 25 Audubons, and 4 Intergrades for a total of 52.  Not a record - that was 104 in 2009 (and a year we had a fall-out), but way more than the 3 we caught last year.  And, of course, there will likely be more to come. Today, they kept us going - 14 of our 20 new birds.

Here's the break-down of the 20 new and 2 returns:

House Wren 1 (banded 5/13/15)

Open daily, weather permitting, through June 2, EXCEPT for May 13, 14, and 30. It is almost always better to visit early in the morning. We are opening nets at 6:30, and most days will have birds back at the station by 7:15. There are school groups every weekday, arriving about 9:45. We aim to close by noon most days, earlier if it is very hot, very cold, or very windy.
