Today I did car birding in our relatively awful winter weather (not as bad as other front range cities but only got to 14 or so today) and found 5 Yellow-rumped Warblers foraging on the grounds of The Abbey. Though a limited number of Yellow-rumped Warblers often overwinter I felt badly for these insectivores as this unusually cold snap so early made foraging for insects most difficult. At one point 3 of them found shelter near each other under a large branch and perched for several minutes with their feathers fluffed to warm themselves--I do not remember seeing 3 of these warblers sitting still at the same time. And I was careful to not disturb their foraging or warming. I got photos of them perched and fluffed up as well as briefly perched in the shelter of a building where they were foraging plus a short video of them grooming their feathers after warming under the branch--I have uploaded these to my Birds and Nature blog. There was also a Say's Phoebe foraging on the walls of a nearby building but I did not get photos of it.
