Visitors:Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the count today! As we
approach the end of the season volunteers are coming for their final shift,
so thank you especially to Dave Hill and Chris Gearhart for all of your
work, time, and passion every Friday this season.
We saw 29 visitors at the ridge today including a couple that got to enjoy
our multi-buteo line in the morning.
Weather:It was a beautiful morning with partially cloudy skies and light winds from
the E. Winds picked up in the afternoon and storm clouds could be seen all
around us. The count was ended at 1445 MST due to high winds.
Raptor Observations:Migration kicked off first thing this morning with birds far over the
western ridges. Highlights include continuing BW, a few coming close, and a
four bird line directly overhead of a dark-morph FH, SW, and two BW. We
continue to see FH moving and are enjoying every second! Local TV, RT, and
GE were seen today with high activity in the afternoon.
Non-raptor Observations:At least 3 BGGN were singing and calling for most of the day, the most
we’ve seen this season at once. A LEWO was seen by Steve Small and Carol
Cwiklinski flying past on their hike up. A BUOR was also seen flying past
the count site today! Passerine activity decreased in the afternoon and
corvid activity was low all day.
Predictions:Another sunny morning is expected with some clouds in the afternoon. Winds
may be moderate to strong in the afternoon.
