I have wanted for some years to see and photograph the elusive Dusky Grouse displaying. Today I went to Genesee Mountain Park, Lookout Mountain, and Mount Lindo in vain. Then I called a friend in his gated community off of Turkey Creek Road near Tinytown (West Ranch Road). "Have you seen any grouse?" (Excitedly) "Yes we have an "attack grouse." So I was let in, drove to his house, and he explained exactly where the dangerous bird is. "He attacks, dogs, people, and pecks tires!" I went to the spot on the main road and sure enough! I did not need to find him, he found me and kept dogging my heels. I kicked at him but he just jumped back and bored right in again! After getting some photos (see WRShade3 on Flickr) I retreated to the safety of my SUV.  He strutted back and forth waiting for me outside the driver's side door until I drove off laughing out loud.

I am sorry this is on private land with no public access.

Anybody else experienced aggressive grouse?

The Dusky Grouse at Lookout Mountain (RIP) Jefferson County last year did the same thing. It was kind of fun!

Years ago at Mueller State Park (El Paso County), a Dusky Grouse kept running up to a friend of mine and jumping up and down. It would retreat and then come back again, and jump up and down.
Oddly, it ignored the other 3 of us.

I have, in Golden Gate State Park, upper entrance. Same thing, he kept pecking tires, legs, whatever was available. He was at it for hours.

I seem to remember that the Lookout Mountain attack grouse ended up being run over and killed by a car.

Never been attacked by a grouse, but I have been kicked in the hip by a well known aggressive turkey in a Sacramento park. "Fearless Fred" was eventually relocated.
Also was chased by a turkey in Arizona and forced to jump a stream to get away.
Both incidences were right around Easter.

One time on the road between Aspen and the Maroon Bells a male Dusky Grouse ran towards my car on the road, jumped on the hood and stared at us through the windshield.  I opened the door to get a photo and he hopped off of the hood, onto the ground and next thing I knew he was up on my leg and in the car.  Here's a picture of him on the dashboard.  He later road on top of the car and when I tried to get him off for his own safety, he chased me up and down the road biting my legs.

Yes as Tom Behnfield also states there was a Dusky Grouse at the Boetcher Nature Center last year with the same aggressive attitude. I had never encounter a bird with so much personality before. The two birders I was with did not find it amusing. I thought it was great. It chased me around my car several times. it pecked at another birders binoculars while chasing her. It eventually got run over. I heard it drew blood on one person prior to my visit.
