Here are some fairly bad photos.  Through the scope we saw a small loon with a snow-white face and neck, with just a narrow dark strip along the back of the neck.  The white on the cheeks appeared to extend above the eye.  The back was a fairly light with a bit of scalloping or speckling.  While it's hard to see in the pictures, the flanks of the bird were much lighter than the back and were often clearly visible above the water line.  Bill was light colored, quite fine, and seemed slightly upturned.  This is a new species for me so any feedback would be welcome.

I'm grateful for the heads-up about a loon on this pond from several other birders whom we met in the 88th Ave preserve area.

Also in the area were a wide assortment of ducks including Barrow's Goldeneyes, some horned grebes, and various gulls including a Glaucous.
