Just to elaborate ... Steve and I pulled over a hundred yards before the state line on Hwy. 140 because a turnout on the east side of the road had a conspicuous patch of tall oaks and other broadleaf trees that had a very "Arizona" look, and we were rattling off likely Arizona species that "should" be there, just for fun, when in response to W. Screech-Owl imitations and spishing, in comes a Whip-poor-will (!), dashing around in broad daylight (ca. 11:00 AM), perched briefly for a couple of brief but close looks, and then vanished back into the dense undergrowth.  We could not lure it back out or relocate it.  [It was NOT on the list of species were were dreaming about.] .  Van Remsen (currently in Cortez)
