Perspective. It seemed like we caught almost no birds this morning, but that was mostly compared to the last few days. We actually process 61, but 39 of them were recaps, including a whopping 32 Wilson's. On a very grey, foggy morning, the Warblers we'd banded over the last few days that had not yet moved on were out and about and hitting our nets. Here is the breakdown of the 22 new:
Orange-crowned Warbler 3
Yellow Warbler 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Aududon's 1
Wilson's Warbler 11
Chipping Sparrow 1
Clay-colored Sparrow 2
Song Sparrow 1
Lincoln's Sparrow 2
We are open 6 days per week (closed Mondays), weather permitting, through October 14. We are opening nets at 6:30 and should have birds back at the station by 7:15. We will close most days by about 11:30. School groups arrive most weekdays at about 9:30. The best time to visit (fewest people, most birds) is before 9:30 weekdays and Sundays.
Tomorrow (Saturday) is the annual Barr Lake Birding Festival; there will be lots of great activities for people of all ages and lots of people!
