Hi Everyone--

I stopped at the north end of Union Reservoir (WCR 28 east of WCR 1) today
7/25 on my way home from South Dakota (a successful trip; thanks, Nathan P).
I counted over 150 Aechmophorus grebes, grouped mostly at the northwest
corner. There were two pairs of Clark's Grebes in binocular range.

I was by Union yesterday and saw about the same in the NW corner with
perhaps 300 or so more elsewhere on the reservoir. I saw no YOY.
With the water high we may see the late nesting that has occured the
last 2 years with dependent young present into September. My
understanding is that the 100s of young the last two years is unusual
there over recent decades.
Probably depends on water staying up so they can nest in the cattail.

Urling bagged your critter after we both took a look at it. We checked our field guides, and yours has a (large) white patch on the throat. Martens have orange to yellow patches there. It turns out that it's a Mink instead of a Marten. Equally lost on Colorado 52.

Urling will haul it to the Museum tomorrow. Thanks for sharing it.
