Ridgway Banding Station - Bird Conservancy of the Rockies (09/02/25 - 09/3/25)

The banding station here at Dallas Creek in Ridgway had its first day yesterday. Here’s the breakdown of captures thus far:
9/2/2025: Busy start to the morning with 7 birds in the first net run.
Overall, nice diversity of species for our opening day. Today ended with a
total of 10 different species.
15 Newly Banded Birds:
American Robin: 3
Black-capped Chickadee: 2
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher: 1
Gray Catbird: 2
Lincoln’s Sparrow: 2
MacGillivray’s Warbler: 1
Northern House Wren: 2
Willow Flycatcher: 1
Wilson’s Warbler: 1
1 Recaptured Bird
Orange-crowned Warbler: 1
9/3/2025: A little chilly and quiet to start this morning, but we were treated to some exciting captures later in the day. Fewer overall species, but we added 4 new species to our overall species list (Downy Woodpecker, Northern Waterthrush, Song Sparrow, Yellow Warbler). We thought the Downy was going to be the highlight of the day until the Northern Waterthrush came through! This capture marks the 4th time this species was caught since 2006 (last capture was in 2019). Our total species count for the season is up to 14 as of today.

Northern House Wren: 2
Northern Waterthrush: 1

Northern House Wren: 1 (recap from 9/2 that has gained 0.2g in weight)
The station will operate Tuesday-Saturday from ~6:30a-noon until September 13th.
We’re located at Ridgway State Park (Dallas Creek entrance). Turn left and park at the end of the road at the confluence parking lot. We are located on the on the east side of the walking bridge. Feel free to stop by when we’re around!
